Head's Blog - December 2025

As we reach the end of the first full term for our Year 7 students, they have truly impressed us with their drive and independence as new members of the Senior School. We are incredibly proud of how they have embraced every aspect of school life, from academic challenges to the wide range of co-curricular activities and competitions on offer.

One standout achievement was in the TfL 25 Poster Competitionwhere, encouraged by our Head of Year 7, one of our talented students, Sara, scooped one of the three themed prizes! Her winning design is now featured in TfL’s exhibition at Battersea Power Station – a remarkable accomplishment.

Further down the school, it has been wonderful to hear about our Reception pupils immersing themselves into Jurassic times and Year 1 engineering fabulous Christmas trees with our Beaverbot cutting tools. Meanwhile, our Senior School and Sixth Form students have been busy mentoring Junior School pupils through our ‘Big Sister, Little Sister’ programme. Pupils in Years 2–5 have loved taking part in language lessons led by Year 11 and exploring creative fashion design workshops with our A-level Textiles students. These sessions have been a fantastic way to build confidence and spark new interests.

Of course, the influence of older peers extends far beyond the classroom. This year, we proudly celebrate GDST Alumna of the Year, awarded to former Blackheath High School student Abi Gilchrist. Abi, a musician and entrepreneur, is the founder and director of Soul Choirs and has been recognised for her incredible impact on mental health and charitable causes. Huge congratulations to Abi for inspiring and empowering our next generation of girls!

With Christmas just around the corner, I want to say a heartfelt well done to everyone for their hard work and commitment this term - from the many competitions and prizes (read on!) to Year 11 completing their mock GCSEs and Year 13 preparing for theirs in January. Over the holidays, take time to relax with friends and family and, if you can, try and embrace the power of gentle silence that Ms Cheyns refers to in her spotlight below.

Best wishes for 2026,
