After two days at the Girls’ School Association conference, filled with insightful workshops and discussions on girls’ education, I’m returning with fresh ideas, valuable connections, and the latest research to drive forward at Blackheath High. Whilst time away from school is always precious, gaining the wider outside experience is incredibly valuable and I look forward to sharing updates with you soon.
As ever, it has been an exciting time at school with so many enriching experiences both in and outside the classroom. Students have secured fantastic work experience opportunities gaining valuable insights into their future careers. Our Wollstonecraft Speaker Series and alumnae-led discussions have brought inspiring perspectives, strengthening connections between past and present students; our Academic Scholars have been tackling many big questions in their new Café Society, fostering thought-provoking debates; and at Junior School, Maths Week has ignited much fun and creativity exploring the exciting world of mathematics in new and engaging ways.
As we near the end of term, exam season is now in full swing. Many of our Senior School girls are finishing their assessments and preparing for a well-earned break, while Year 11 and Year 13 continue their GCSE and A-level exams. To support our younger students through their own assessment weeks, we’ve woven activities like yoga, journaling, rounders on the Heath, a Transport for London talk, and interactive games into their schedules - helping to ease any pressure and promote balance.
Last week, our Junior School Council visited Senior School, meeting their 'big sisters' to discuss ideas for school improvements in our Joint School Council. Their enthusiastic and productive discussions were inspiring and a great demonstration of leadership and the collaborative spirit of our students.
With the latest Art exhibition 'What a wonderful world!' on display at Juniors, the school hall has never looked more vibrant. I hope many of you had the chance to admire the wonderful and unique projects that our students have created— hopefully many of these pieces will go on display at home for years to come!
Another exciting development this half term has been the launch of our new Archive Club at Senior School. Led by Mrs Canty and Miss Blythe, students are delving into the rich history of Blackheath High, carefully exploring our school archives (gloves at the ready!) to learn about the remarkable students, and their stories, that came before them. If any Alumnae would like to come and explore the archives too, please let us know - we’d love to welcome you!
Do take a moment to read all our news, reflect on the fantastic opportunities your daughters have embraced this term, and mark upcoming events on your calendar - it would be wonderful to see you soon.
In the meantime, have a well-deserved break with your fabulous girls, and here’s hoping for lots more sunny days!
Best wishes,
Natalie Argile
