What a wonderful world

We were absolutely blown away by the creativity on display at this year’s Junior School Art Exhibition, which brought the theme ‘What a Wonderful World!’ to life in the most vibrant and imaginative ways. From Nursery through to Year 6, our pupils explored a diverse range of artistic styles and cultures, developing their skills while learning about celebrated artists and artistic traditions.

Each year group took a unique journey through the art world:

  • Year 6 explored Pop Art, crafting eye-catching clay sculptures inspired by American artist Wayne Thiebaud and his joyful depictions of cakes, sweets, and everyday objects

  • Year 5 focused on colour theory, using watercolours to paint the subtle shades of autumn leaves, drawing inspiration from Georgia O’Keeffe and Dutch floral artist Rachel Ruysch

  • Year 4 took part in our Artist-in-Residency programme, creating imaginative wire sculptures inspired by the novel Mouse Bird Snake Wolf. Their creations emerged from circular forms, representing the power of storytelling and imagination

  • Year 3 studied pattern and printmaking through the work of William Morris, designing nature-inspired prints using block printing, symmetry, and repetition—beautifully blending learning from maths, science and history

  • Year 2 explored African art, producing bold and colourful animal paintings using Edward Tingatinga’s iconic dot technique

  • Year 1 turned to ceramic art, shaping clay birds inspired by Les Céramiques de Lussan and decorating them with their own patterns based on British birds

  • Reception enjoyed some eco-art, creating delicate prints using natural materials on calico, influenced by Australian artist India Flint

  • Nursery focused on spirals and colour, drawing real snails and making joyful, large-scale collages inspired by Alma Thomas’s vibrant Eclipse series
