60 seconds with Miss L Dwyer, Teaching Assistant
Miss L Dwyer, Nursery Teaching Assistant, talks to us about supporting individual needs, the EYFS and the positive energy of Blackheath High School.
Tell us about yourself.
I started at Blackheath High School in September and am a nursery teaching assistant. I work alongside my class teacher in providing activities, supporting the children’s individual needs, extending their skills and deepening their knowledge in a welcoming and stimulating environment.
I previously worked in a day nursery and managed the baby unit. I then went into a school and worked with reception age group where I learnt a lot more about the EYFS and enjoyed the change in age groups. This is my fifth year working in the EYFS and I have enjoyed working alongside all age groups. I am experienced at understanding how children learn, what their needs are, and how I can deepen their knowledge. I am now hoping to complete my EYP in the future.

What do you like most about your job?
What I enjoy most is being with my class as there is never a dull moment and no two days are the same. It is very rewarding to see just how far the class has come since starting in September. The staff have been very welcoming and helpful since I started at Blackheath High School and I have enjoyed getting to know the children throughout the school while doing breakfast club.

There is a lovely positive energy about the school.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
