Autumn Action: Sports Highlights from the Term

As ever, Junior and Senior School Sports have had an active and energetic first half term – enjoying fresh autumn fixtures and athletics competitions.

Junior School

Cross Country

  • Years 4-6 Cross Country teams met at Croydon High for an amazing turnout in the Croydon cross country run. Competing against five other schools, our Year 4 girls placed second, and Years 5 and 6 came third - such a brilliant effort! A special shoutout to Eloisa in Year 6, who came 2nd overall out of 48 runners. Well done to all who took part.

Netball

  • In our Year 4 fixture against Blackheath Prep, our teams won their games with a great all-round performance. Well done to all in bringing lots of energy and commitment to the games.

  • In our Year 4 game against Bromley High, we had one win across the four games, but a sterling effort from all our players, so well done to all!

  • We had a brilliant Year 5 match against Bromley High - three out of the four teams playing won their matches. A big well done to the four captains who led their teams in true Blackheath High spirit – Isobel, Reeva, Grace and Merryn. Congratulations to our players of the match, as chosen by the other team - Florence, Myla, Lily and Anika.

Senior School

It’s been a packed half term of sport across all year groups, with fixtures galore in both netball and hockey. It has been fantastic to see so many pupils representing the school and embracing the spirit of competition and our new Year 7s in particular enjoying the whole gambit of autumn sports.

Don’t forget to look at SOCS for future fixture lists in the new half term! In November, key highlights will be U14 Kent County netball, the GDST Rally at Croydon (cross country U12 hockey and U11 football), the GDST U15 hockey residential in Newcastle, as well as fixtures in abundance.

Here are just a few of the highlights from the past six weeks.

GDST Rally Northampton High

  • Under 13 Hockey: a fantastic day of well-fought competition saw the team achieve a win, a draw and a loss, earning their place in the Cup competition – the top half of all participating schools. They narrowly missed out on a finals spot, but it was a sterling effort from all involved

  • U14 Netball: The team won three out of four pool games in the morning, securing a place in the Cup competition from a field of 20 schools. With excellent shooting and brilliant defending, the girls worked tirelessly throughout the day and were just edged out of the play-offs

  • U16 Football: Another impressive performance from our footballers, who recorded three draws and one loss in the group stage. They showed real progress as the day went on, advancing to the Plate competition where they won their quarter-final on penalties before bowing out in a tense semi-final – also on penalties.

Swimming

  • We have had two fantastic swimming events at Bromley High – a great to start the swimming fixtures with two school galas against various schools

Sixth Form Games at Danson Park

  • This half term, our Sixth Formers have been making the most of the crisp autumn mornings with kayaking sessions at Danson Park. They may have returned a little soggy at times, but always with big smiles, great stories, and the sense of calm that comes from starting the day out on the water.

Netball

  • U19 Kent County Netball: Our senior team won the majority of their morning games, securing a place in the top tier of the afternoon competition, where they finished a strong third in their pool. It was a fantastic and hard-fought day — great to see so many of our Seniors so eager to get involved in these fixtures

Celebrating individual sporting achievement

  • Jianxi Mountain Biking Summer 2025Huge congratulations to Jianxi who over the summer competed in the National Championships for downhill mountain biking in the beautiful Malvern Hills. Jianxi was over the moon to take home a Silver medal!
