I am Reese, I am in Year 13 and a Deputy Head Student. I am studying A-level Maths, Geography and Design Technology, alongside completing my EPQ last term.
I really value my role as Deputy Head Student of Wellbeing, working closely with our Head of PSHE and Wellbeing, Ms Smith. We meet regularly to discuss events and activities for “Wellbeing Wednesdays”, a form time initiative to support student mental wellbeing; and together we recently hosted ‘Hello Yellow’, a national event to raise funds for Young Minds UK on World Mental Health Day (you can see some of the day's photos below!). From next half term, I will also be attending our wellbeing hub, The Nest fortnightly, along with the Wellbeing Representatives from Year 10, to provide additional support for students.
I am extremely proud of my Grade A in my EPQ. My topic, “How do cultural tensions and politics influence cricket?”, was inspired by my passion for playing the sport both inside and outside school. As well as being a topic I find fascinating, I felt compelled to explore the relatively unexplored history of women’s cricket. It also really helped me to prepare for the structure and process of writing essays at university - and luckily, some of the universities I am looking at will use the grade as a contribution to my overall UCAS points.
I play cricket for U18 Kent as the wicket-keeper batter, and I’ve helped the team reach the 50-over National Cup finals two years in a row. I made my Kent Women’s 1st XI debut in 2024, have taken part in Tier 1 academy events, and I’m part of the Kent Emerging Player Programme (EPP) for 2025/26. I’ve also been lucky enough to play for the GDST Select Girls Cricket 1XI, which gave me the chance to learn from other talented players and teachers across the GDST.
Before university, I plan to travel to Australia and play cricket for an Australian club for six months during their summer. I’ll also be coaching younger players, as I recently achieved my England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) coaching qualifications, before returning to England to study Geography.
My love for Geography inspired me to run Geography Society in Year 12. It was open to younger students who were curious about the subject, and together we explored things like the Earth’s structure through fun activities and games, learning outside the classroom in a really hands-on way.
Being in Sixth Form at Blackheath High has helped me grow academically and personally. With amazing support from my teachers, I’ve been able to follow my passions, challenge myself, and feel confident and excited for what’s next.
