Celebrating Women in Science

Our Digital Leaders programme invites Junior School pupils to help lead technology use across the school - from testing new tools to promoting e-safety and supporting others with digital skills.
To help our Digital Leaders see how digital skills connect to the wider world, the parent of one of our ambassadors kindly invited the group to visit the Barclays Group HQ in Canary Wharf.
The girls were immediately immersed in the fast paced world of finance, technology and real life problem solving. Their visit began with a tour of the equities trading floors, where they saw first hand how computer science, mathematics and digital systems power decision making in a major global bank. They then heard presentations from a variety of Barclays employees, who spoke about their roles and the importance of teamwork, innovation and analytical thinking in the workplace.
The visit was hugely successful for everyone. “It was the best trip we’ve ever been on!” declared Eda and Reeva, while one of our Barclays hosts said, “I was struck by the girls’ confidence and how articulate they were with adults they had never met before - everything you want in the next generation.”
The trip not only strengthened the students’ understanding of digital technologies in real world settings but also helped build confidence, aspiration and curiosity - exactly what our Digital Leaders Programme aims to achieve.
