Over recent years, the GDST Select Teams – which include Football, Netball, Hockey and Cricket, with Rowing launching soon - have flourished under the leadership of Blackheath High’s Director of Sport Miss Morrell. In her dual role as GDST Trust Consultant Teacher, Miss Morrell has transformed the team selection process, raising expectations and aligning the programme with the standards of professional academies and regional and national performance programmes.
The result is a high-performance culture rooted in ambition, opportunity and excellence – ensuring talented athletes across the Trust are identified, supported and challenged to compete at the very highest level. In recent years, a number of Blackheath High students have trialled for these elite squads, with some – including Reese in Year 13 – progressing to match-play level and competing at the very top standard within the Trust. This year is one of our strongest yet, with at least one Blackheath High student selected across every major GDST sport. Their success is a testament to dedication, resilience and countless hours of training – and we look forward to seeing how far their sporting journeys will take them next.
