Head Student Team Blog: Hear from future economist Daniela

Daniela Tile (1)Hello, my name is Daniela and I am proud to serve as a Deputy Head Student. I study A-level Maths, Economics and Politics. I joined Blackheath High School in Year 12, and from the moment I joined the Sixth Form, I received the warmest welcome, which immediately made me feel a part of the school community. Being in a space where I genuinely feel supported has played a key role in my personal growth, encouraging me to step outside of my comfort zone, for example leading DNI (diversity & inclusion) meetings with younger students, and collaborating with my DNI counterparts across the wider GDST cohort.

I am honoured to be the Deputy Head Student for Diversity & Inclusion. Taking on this role has allowed me to work closely with students across different year groups to ensure all voices are heard - something that is particularly important to me. I’ve been able to plan and lead initiatives such as the Black History Month poster competition, as well as leading assemblies for occasions such as South Asian Heritage month and Easter. This has been very meaningful to help raise awareness of the diverse cultures and backgrounds within our school, promoting understanding, respect, and inclusivity.

I recently completed my Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) entitled ‘why is there a persistent underrepresentation of black females in the quaternary and tertiary sectors?’ I chose this topic because it resonates deeply with me and aligns closely with my future aspirations. Taking on this project allowed me to explore the structural barriers that exist within professional spaces. As someone who aspires to pursue a career in finance and banking, this research was especially intriguing and important, as it highlighted how inclusive leadership and representation shape the professional workplace.

Alongside this, I had the privilege of joining the LEAD programme, run in partnership with the London School of Economics. The programme is designed to foster entrepreneurship, leadership, empowering young women through mentoring, workshops, and a social enterprise project. I have had the privilege of taking on the role of CEO for our enterprise, where my team and I designed an online children charity shop called ‘ShareShack’ aimed at relieving some of the financial burdens of caring for young children, whilst promoting sustainability through the reuse of products. This experience built my confidence and teamwork skills, while providing valuable insight into leadership and enterprise in real-world contexts.

My passion for Economics led me to set up a Business & Economics Society for younger Blackheath High students with an interest in the subject. In the society, we explore topics including tariffs, the role of AI in the economy, government budgets and key economic concepts such as supply and demand through discussion and group work.

After Sixth Form, I hope to study Economics at university, and with the incredible support and wide range of opportunities I have received here at Blackheath High, I feel confident, motivated, and excited for what lies ahead.
