A commendation for Emily in the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators

We are thrilled to share the fantastic news that Year 9 student Emily has been awarded a Commendation in Level 2 Mandarin as part of the prestigious Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators. This is a national translation competition run by the Queen’s College Translation Exchange at the University of Oxford.

The competition, launched in 2020, is inspired by the legacy of Anthea Bell, one of the most celebrated literary translators of our time. The prize aims to promote language learning and celebrate the creativity involved in translation, offering students the opportunity to engage with authentic texts and develop their linguistic and cultural skills.

This year, the competition attracted an incredible 22,000 students from across the UK, with nearly 5,000 entries judged. Emily’s achievement in receiving a commendation is a tremendous accomplishment, reflecting both her hard work and her impressive talent in Mandarin translation.

We would also like to recognise the efforts of three other students who received Certificates of Participation for their involvement in the competition:

  • Sophie, Year 10

  • Xin Lun, Year 9

  • Elizabeth, Year 9

We are extremely proud of all our students who took part in this highly regarded competition. Their commitment to language learning and intercultural understanding is truly inspiring.
