The Music Department started the summer term with a bang, celebrating with our annual Pop Fest concert! This event showcased our wonderful rock bands and jazz band, led by Mr Luckett and Mr Peszynski respectively. The girls really put their all into their bands, creating music and rocking out to their favourite tunes – everything from ABBA to Paramore to Earth, Wind and Fire! Congratulations to everyone who took part – it was a wonderful concert.
The following week saw our final Tea Time Concert of the academic year. Tea Time Concerts are an opportunity for students to volunteer to perform a short piece they have been working on in an informal recital. It’s always very encouraging to see younger students signing up, especially Year 7, because it is a great opportunity to practice performing in front of an audience in a non-pressurised environment. We enjoyed performances including vocal duets, solo flutes and a selection of music from the Junior String Quartet.
The Music Department would like to say a huge goodbye and good luck to Tiana, who leaves Blackheath High this year to take up a place at the hugely prestigious Royal Academy of Music Conservatoire. All our musicians are incredibly special, but Tiana is such an active, high-profile member of our community that we can’t let her go without a special farewell. So many of you will have experienced Tiana’s beautiful harp playing at events around the school, or playing the violin at one of the many concerts she’s taken part in, or perhaps even seen her conducting, which she began with inspiration from Director of Music Mrs Butterworth. We wish Tiana the most incredible luck for the next step on her journey and we can’t wait to see where the future takes her. We know he will shine brightly.
