Futures update at Blackheath High School

Wollstonecraft Speaker Series

As part of the futures programme here at Blackheath High School, we have had many influential people come to speak at our Wollstonecraft Speaker Series, including: Journalist Angela Saini, Author Alice Castle, sculptor Dan Woodley and Lily MacDonald, who gave us a fascinating lecture about introductions and elevator pitches. 

As we continue the programme throughout 2020, we are extremely excited to welcome the following speakers: 

Dr Nira Chamberlain PhD HonDSc, (President for the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications - 5 March 2020) is listed by the PowerList 2020 Top 100 Most Influential Black Person in the UK and Top 100 Most Influential BAME Leaders by the Financial Times. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Science from the University of Greenwich for his unique and inspirational contribution to the field of mathematics. 

Dr Sophie Carr: (23 April 2020)Having trained as an engineer, Sophie’s career changed track when she was introduced to Bayesian Belief Networks.  Eight years and one part time PhD later, Sophie founded Bays Consulting which has steadily grown over the years providing data science and statistical analysis to wide client base.  Sophie is a Chartered Scientist, Chartered Mathematician and is also the World’s Most Interesting Mathematician.

Blackheath High School is also delighted to release the first ever edition of our new Futures e-magazine, Launchpad. Launchpad – named by Ava, Year 7 – has been created by Ms Day and the Year 12 and 13 Careers Ambassadors. It’s aim is to update parents and students on the range of careers activities, opportunities and speakers that support and develop careers at Blackheath High School.
