Sixth Formers left inspired after engaging Modern Poetry Conference

On Tuesday 7 May the English Department hosted a successful Modern Poetry Conference for Sixth Form English students.

Blackheath High School students were joined by peers from Sydenham High and Bromley High schools. Students developed their knowledge and understanding of the set text modern poetry through participating in a range of workshop activities, including writing a condensed version of a studied poem and performing another as a group.

Students were also inspired by a presentation by the very engaging poet Ash Dickinson who performed a number of his dynamic and original poems, including one written as a feminist response to misogynist rap music and another poem about his fridge falling in love with him!

The students left feeling inspired by the days events and will use their new found knowledge for their exams.
