Jacques a dit: Year 10 Language Leader Award in action

This term, a group of our Year 10 linguists have been developing their leadership and communication skills through the Language Leader Award, delivered by Routes into Languages. The programme empowers students to become confident ambassadors for language learning while strengthening key skills such as teamwork, organisation and public speaking.

In a wonderful collaboration between the Junior and Senior Schools, our Year 10 students planned and delivered engaging German and French sessions for younger pupils in Years 2 and 3. From lively games like Jacques a dit (Simon says) to interactive vocabulary challenges, the lessons were creative, accessible and full of energy. The initiative beautifully complements our Big Sister, Little Sister ethos, giving Senior students the opportunity to lead with confidence while inspiring the next generation of linguists.

Throughout the process, the Year 10 Language Leaders have shown impressive maturity, enthusiasm and growing self-belief. Watching them step into leadership roles so naturally – guiding, encouraging and connecting with younger pupils – has been a pleasure. The award has not only strengthened their linguistic skills, but also nurtured the confidence and sense of responsibility that will serve them well far beyond the classroom.

We are incredibly proud of their commitment and the positive example they have set across the school community.
