On a cold, grey, drizzly January morning, what a delight to be warmly welcomed into a calm meditation room and given a chance to sit quietly and mindfully, reflecting in a peaceful and serene space.
Year 4’s trip to the London Buddhist Centre offered a wonderful opportunity for pupils to deepen their understanding of Buddhism. They eagerly shared everything they had learned about the Buddha: his journey from regal prince to enlightened teacher, the lessons he passed down through generations, and what it truly means to follow the Buddhist path.
During the visit, we were fortunate to speak with our host, a practising Buddhist who explained the significance of the artefacts in the meditation room. Pupils asked thoughtful questions about the lotus flower, admired the delicate beauty of the shrine, and noticed the gentle fragrance of the joss sticks that filled the air.
“I really enjoyed learning how to meditate as it was so calming, and it made me feel better afterwards” (Eva)
“I loved it when we entered the building and saw the golden statue of Buddha. Meditation makes me feel peaceful and I think I might try meditating at home” (Martha)
“I loved the incense sticks as they helped to calm me, and it was almost as if I was meditating in a room all by myself” (Erica)
“I learnt so many things, but my favourite part was learning how to meditate whilst jumping. You just have to focus your mind whilst your body is active” (Ellen)
