Step into Science: community stay and play event

Into Science web imageScience formed the theme for our exciting termly stay & play session in November, as we invited our youngest pupils, along with children aged 2-5 from across the local community, to join us for a thrilling morning of scientific discovery.

One of the highlights was the Chemistry Champions workshop, led by EYFS STEM specialists Inventors & Makers. Through engaging storytelling and hands-on investigation, their workshops help young learners build early STEM skills and the confidence to see themselves as future inventors and engineers. The children were taken on a scientific adventure exploring soundwaves, mixing and separating materials, and creating exciting chemical reactions. It was wonderful to see our pupils - and our visiting children - fully involved and experimenting with such enthusiasm.

Miss Riordan ran a creative art session focused on science, with art to take home at the end as a reminder of their day at Blackheath High. She was supported by some of our Year 6 buddies, who helped guests with their works of art, kept the room tidy and the art materials flowing, and made us very proud by living the ‘big sister little sister’ ethos so beautifully.

And special thanks to Head Chef Rosario and his team for creating such beautiful science-inspired snacks! The test tube shaped cookies, ‘atom’ cupcakes and healthy snacks inspired by nature were very much appreciated by our guests!

Our next event for our youngest community will take place in March and promises to be really ‘eggsellent’.... Watch this space for more!
