Year 9 student Sofia’s football journey continues to be nothing short of extraordinary. A dedicated and talented player who joined Blackheath High last year after living in Malaysia, she’s now signed a professional two-year contract with the London City Lionesses U18s – becoming the youngest player to join the league at just 13. Even more exciting, her academy team has just been promoted to the Women’s Super League – a historic moment, marking the first time a women’s team has reached the top league without the backing of a men’s club.
Her grassroots success is equally impressive. With Cray Wanderers FC, Sofia helped her team to a stunning season, winning the London Cup, Kent Cup, and the JPL National Champions Trophy. In a history-making feat, they also became the first all-girls team to win the U13 Boys Division 2 Maidstone League and the Challenge Cup, competing against 44 boys' teams.
Beyond club football, Sofia has represented Inner London Schools FA in the Southern Region Schools Cup and competed internationally in the Barcelona Cup with Swindon Town FC’s U14s, finishing an incredible second out of 40+ international teams.
As she looks ahead to potential selection for Scotland’s U16 international camp later this summer, we’re so proud of all she’s achieved – and can’t wait to see what she does next. Watch this space!
