Game On: The Term in Play

There is never a dull moment in Physical Education and Sport at Blackheath High. Our students continue to impress across every age group and discipline. Here’s a snapshot of recent highlights across Junior Sports fixtures, Sports Awards, Sports Days, Track & Field events and an insight to Sixth Form Summer Games.

Junior School Sports

Netball

Beacons Netball Awards Izzy Bella MayaWe’re so proud of Bella, Izzy and Maya from Year 6, who have been recognised at the 2025 Beacons Netball Academy Annual Awards for their outstanding skill, determination and dedication on the court this season. With over 600 players competing across Southeast London, the Beacons Academy is a hub of serious netball talent - so for three of the six awards in their age category (Yr5-6) to go to Blackheath High pupils is a phenomenal achievement! Huge congratulations to all three girls—you’ve shown incredible commitment and should be extremely proud of your well-deserved success. We can’t wait to see where your netball journey takes you next.

Athletics

It was a very hot and sunny afternoon at the athletics meet at Bromley High for some of our Year 4 and 5 girls. Despite the heat, the Blackheath teams performed brilliantly! Our Year 4 A team came 2nd, and the Year 4 B team came 3rd. In Year 5, the B team finished 2nd, and the C team took 3rd place. A special well done to Florence, who stepped up to compete above her age group against the Year 5s – an impressive effort!

Swimming

We had a brilliant afternoon at the Y3–6 Swimming Gala at Bromley High. Everyone swam with great effort and team spirit. Highlights included Sylvie (Year 3) and Ahana both finishing 2nd in their freestyle races, and Ayianna winning her freestyle race in style. A big cheer too for the Year 6 team, who won the medley relay race!

Cricket

  • In a great match against Bromley High, Year 3 showed enthusiasm and teamwork throughout. Although no official scores were recorded, there was clear improvement whenever the team took to the field, demonstrating growing confidence and skill

  • Year 6 had a great afternoon at Sydenham High, playing two exciting cricket matches. We narrowly lost one match but showed brilliant resilience to tie the second game thanks to a crucial final wicket from Emily! Well done to everyone who took part, and a special shout-out to our standout bowlers and batters of the day: Damla, Eloise D, Emerson and Shahzia

Junior School Girls Soak Up Wimbledon Magic!

On Tuesday 8 July, a group of lucky Junior School pupils had the unforgettable opportunity to attend the Wimbledon quarter-finals of the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Singles at the iconic All England Club. From the moment they arrived, the excitement was palpable as they joined the buzz of one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events at the All England Club.

The highlight of the day was the thrilling match between Aryna Sabalenka and Laura Siegemund, which saw Sabalenka battle back from a set down to win 4–6, 6–2, 6–4 in a gripping three-set showdown. The girls were captivated by the drama on Centre Court, asking insightful questions, spotting top players, and soaking up the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

It was a truly memorable day of sport and sunshine.

Celebrating Excellence at the Senior School Sports Awards

This year’s Senior School Sports Awards was a truly spectacular evening, honouring the dedication, talent and spirit of our young athletes across a wide range of disciplines. From netball and hockey to athletics and football, the event shone a spotlight on the incredible achievements of students from Junior School through to Sixth Form.

We were thrilled to welcome Zainab Alema as our guest speaker—a British-Ghanaian neonatal nurse, mother of three, and trailblazing rugby player for Barnes FC. As a Black Muslim woman in rugby, Zainab shared her powerful journey of breaking barriers and redefining representation in sport. Her message of resilience, passion and purpose resonated deeply with students and guests alike, inspiring everyone to pursue their goals unapologetically.

Congratulations to all our Shining and Rising Stars, including our Under 10s from Junior School, for their outstanding performances and progress this year. A special round of applause goes to Sophia (Year 11), who was named Sportswoman of the Year—a well-deserved recognition of her commitment, leadership and excellence.

Sixth Form Summer Games

Sixth Form Summer Games 2025 IMG 0271While the Summer term brings the pressure of exams, we ensure our Sixth Formers also have time to recharge and reconnect with themselves and each other. This term, students took to the water at Danson Park for an introductory sailing session. In addition to learning new skills and building confidence, the peaceful rhythm of sailing offered a welcome moment of calm and balance amid the intensity of exam season.
