Midsummer musical medleys
Once again it has been a busy term in the Music Department with a wide variety of events, from large scale ensemble concerts to intimate solo recitals.
On a bright midsummer morning we welcomed parents to the Breakfast Concert. The audience were treated to tea, coffee and muffins as they heard a range of solo performances from girls preparing to take their ABRSM exams.
This was followed by the informal ‘Queens of Country’ event later in the week, featuring repertoire from a range of country stars including Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain and of course, Taylor Swift. This relaxed event was specifically to support wellbeing, and it was wonderful to see so many students having the confidence to get up and sing. A huge thank you to Ms McGhee for organising the evening.
At our delightful Summer Concert on Thursday 29 June, we celebrated the ensemble music we have been rehearsing throughout the term. A broad range of repertoire was covered, from Walton’s rousing Crown Imperial, to Fauré’s lyrical Cantique de Jean Racine and a combined Chamber Choir and band performance of Harry Styles' As It Was. Thank you to all who participated and all those that joined us for this lovely evening!
In the conclusion to our school year, we are also very much looking forward to joining with other choirs from GDST schools and the London Mozart Players to perform at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon on Sunday 9 July. This is set to be a spectacular evening with movements from instrumental solo concertos, (featuring Lillia-Rose in Year 10 on French Horn) and culminating in a combined choir performance of Fauré’s Requiem.
I would like to thank all members of the Music Department staff for their hard work this year, and parents for their support of their daughters’ practice, rehearsals and performances.
