Rare insights into The Mary Evans Picture Library
As part of our Wollstonecraft Lates series, Blackheath High School is teaming up with the renowned Blackheath Society to explore the unique history of one of Blackheath's most intriguing and eclectic institutions, the Mary Evans Picture Library. This will be a rare opportunity to hear about the world-famous collection, its history and its future from Tom Gillmor, Head of Content at the Picture Library.
Born out of a large private archive, the Picture Library has grown over 60 years into an Internationally renowned archival resource specialising in imagery depicting all aspects of the past. The presentation will include the history of the library and the business, the physical archive, how the librarians work with images, their varied collections and how the picture library industry works and how Mary Evans fits into it.
If you have interesting artefacts that you wish to be considered, or historic photos of Blackheath, please bring them along to the evening at Blackheath Junior School for possible discussion.
Date: 16 March 2023, 7pm for 7.30
