Drama round-up: #metoo inspired A-levels and Frantic Year 9s

Frantic Assembly performances - movement-led Drama by Year 9

Throughout the Autumn Term, all Year 9 students have been studying the physical theatre company Frantic Assembly, who believe that movement is at the centre of all communication. They began by exploring movement techniques such as ‘See and Sign’ and ‘Chair Duets’, where students used music and their devised sequences to portray specific characters. Most recently, students have been focusing on learning group lifts (check out the footage below). This not only helps build confidence, trust and group bonds, but also allows students to experience exciting and challenging techniques and skills taught by the renowned theatre company. All students have been excited about participating and learning the skills on stage in the West End. We look forward to seeing how they apply these new techniques to their own Frantic Assembly performances.

#metoo inspired A-level Drama

Marissa and Ruby in Year 13 are rapidly approaching their AQA Component 2 Devised performance exam for Drama A-level. Taking inspiration from the dance theatre company DV8, they have created an educational, thought-provoking piece about the #metoo social movement. Both students interviewed members of staff, uncovered interview footage about the movement and took verbatim quotes to create an engaging and powerful script. Marissa and Ruby really stepped outside their comfort zones, spending lesson time choreographing complex movement sequences that highlight this very personal topic. The level of advanced creativity is outstanding. Their exam is 5th December, and we wish them all the best of luck!
