Covid-19 Information

A message from the Head, Carol Chandler-Thompson:

Ijp 02 05 19 bh 123After an unforgettable time we are incredibly proud of the way everyone in our community has adapted to the current circumstances, supported each other and kept optimism high at every opportunity. I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you, both to the parents and girls for your support, stoicism and positivity, but also to our amazing team of staff. Every single member of teaching and support staff has more than played their part, and I am very grateful.

After a successful term of Guided Home Learning during the national school closure, we welcomed all students back into the school buildings.

To see how we have been protecting your daughter during the pandemic, please read our Safeguarding policy.

A recap of Guided Home Learning during school Building closure

During Guided Home Learning, the Junior School, Senior School & Sixth Form teaching followed a full school day timetable using scholl issued iPads. A combination of teaching methods and resources were used including; live whole class sessions with teachers, 1:1 live sessions with individual students, live small group sessions, workbook sessions, independent learning tasks, team-working tasks, assemblies, clubs and so on.

Our Guided Home Learning teaching is provided via the following online platforms: Microsoft Teams, Firefly, and Tapestry (EYFS).

How we help Key Workers

In the Junior and Senior School buildings, we looked after Key Workers’ and Critical Workers' children while they work hard to save lives and keep the city moving. Many staff, both teaching and support, volunteered to run this service.

We are incredibly grateful to them that we are able to offer this provision.

Helping Lewisham and Greenwich NHS

Since our girls were all learning remotely, we donated all the safety equipment we had available - over 200 safety glasses, 35 masks and 500 disposable aprons from our Science and DT departments for our local Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust midwives, supporting women in the community without PPE. We have, of course, since replenished our own supplies!

Our Head of DT, Mr Masters, has been working with Sydenham High to produce and donate safety visors for our NHS frontline staff, while two of our parents have helped distribute them.

Many of our girls have also been involved in a number of inspiring charitable activities to support those in need during this challenging time. Entrepreneurial Emma, in Year 6, has created a fantastic bespoke line of t-shirts and bags with a special ‘BHS for the NHS’ logo. Emma has designed the products, organised the manufacturing and has set up a website. All of the profits will go to NHS Charities Together, which is fundraising to support NHS staff and volunteers caring for Covid-19 patients.

Read Emma's story in the Evening Standard.

Please have a look at the website and support Emma and the NHS if you can!
