ENGRL
Elisabeth left Blackheath High before her GCSEs in 2011, going on to study Engineering then starting her own business aimed at promoting uptake of STEM careers for girls.
Hi, I’m Elisabeth, a former student of Blackheath High School, and now a Digital Consultant /Engineer and the founder of ENGRL – Girls in Engineering.
My engineering journey started in school – I absolutely loved Art & Maths. I decided to study engineering, eventually obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Product Design and Manufacture Engineering and a Master’s degree in MSc Engineering for International Development. I have been working in the engineering industry for a number of years now and launched ENGRL – Girls in Engineering
in 2024.
ENGRL is a platform dedicated to making engineering more visible, accessible, and representative for girls and young women. Through social media, outreach campaigns and educational content, we help students understand what engineering really is and show them all the different paths they can take in STEM.
I launched ENGRL because I rarely saw people who looked like me in the spaces I wanted to be in - and I want the next generation to feel like they belong in engineering.
What started as a creative side project has now grown into one of the UK’s most visible platforms for girls in engineering, with over 150,000 followers across TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn. ENGRL supports students as they make subject choices, apply to university or explore careers they might not have even known existed.
It’s great to be reconnecting with the school and I hope to continue inspiring more young people to find their place in STEM. If you’re interested in learning more about engineering and STEM, follow us at @engrl.co
