Curriculum

At Blackheath High School, we have ambitious academic aims for each one of our students and we provide a curriculum which will enable her to thrive in every aspect of her secondary school education.

At Key Stage 3, Years 7 to 9, the emphasis is on breadth with an element of choice. The core subjects are taught together with the, creative, physical, technological, linguistic, and philosophical subjects. Our bespoke Wollstonecraft Enrichment Programme, together with two languages from French, Spanish, Mandarin and German, makes for an exciting and rigorous curriculum.

In Years 10 and 11, in addition, girls have the opportunity to study GCSE Astronomy, at the nearby Royal Observatory, and Ancient Greek alongside their GCSE option subjects.

When it comes to the Sixth Form, there are 26 subjects on offer. Students may study three or four to A level, or five if they wish. The majority of girls will study three subjects to A level and also embark on the EPQ, the Extended Project Qualification which they will complete by the end of Year 12.

In addition, all students have the opportunity to follow a Theory of Knowledge course and extension classes in preparation for university admissions tests.

All students follow a programme of PSHE and Physical Education.

We know that when they leave us, for university and the world beyond, our students are confident, composed and are ready to thrive wherever their careers and lives may take them.
