Making electronic quizzes with @yr6bhs. Some excellent (and tricky) questions. I will hang my certificate from Mia and Katie up with pride (I didn’t know pizza originated in Greece!) @BlackheathHigh @BlackheathSci #STEAMWeek https://t.co/ZEiuYpeRDi

Within the first six weeks of their new school life, our Year 7 girls are very happy, busy and stimulated by a range of innovative experiences and events specially designed to ensure a smooth transition. These events fuse together both academic and personal experiences for all girls in Year 7 to foster teamwork and friendship.
I'm really enjoying my time at Blackheath High School.
I feel really safe and everyone is kind. I'm settling in quickly as the teachers are all so nice and I have lots of new friends. I'm really looking forward to many more years to come.
- Lois, Year 7
We begin this exciting time with our Summer School Programme in the last week of August. Activities include: cake making in our fantastic cooking suite; an art and textiles project; sports activities; a picnic in Greenwich Park and a cinema experience in our fabulous theatre. This helps to ensure that your daughter feels happy and relaxed when starting at the school in September. It is also a great opportunity for girls joining from a range of junior schools to forge new friendships.
The Year 7 Pastoral team (comprised of three form tutors and led by the Head of Year 7) also plan and create an Induction Afternoon, followed by a further full day of induction activities. These are designed to enable the girls to familiarise themselves with the school buildings and, most importantly, to get to know their Form Tutor and fellow classmates. This afternoon helps the girls feel comfortable and familiar with their new surroundings and the expectations of secondary school life.
Then, in mid-September, all of Year 7 take part in a PGL residential weekend. Girls conquer fears and try out a range of sports activities run by fully qualified instructors that help them to overcome any self-consciousness and promote a sense of teamwork, and the determination to achieve. Girls also enjoy the social evening activities and build friendships that are consolidated through these shared team experiences.
In October, the girls host their own Tea Party Celebration event for their parents. Our Year 7 students perform and celebrate all they have achieved during their first half term at Blackheath High School.
Our Head of Year 7 takes students to the Unicorn Theatre at Christmas, there is a Cinema Evening in late March and a trip to Broadstairs in July, providing a delightful end to the girls first year at Senior School.
The thing I like most about Seniors is the diversity of the clubs and societies we can join. I have signed up for Netball Club, Amnesty Society and Creative Writing Club. I also enjoy going to the Library a couple of times a week to do some homework at lunchtime. All of the teachers are friendly and supportive which has made settling in very easy.
