Dynamic and engaging workshops in our Look To The Future Day

Organised by Mrs Beecham (Head of Year 9 and 10) and Ms Day (Head of Careers), Year 9s had a wonderful opportunity to participate in a busy morning of workshops and small-group interviews as part of Blackheath’s careers programme.

A fantastic group of parents representing a wide and interesting range of careers spoke informally to small groups of girls, who came armed with plenty of pertinent questions. Law, banking, and architecture were all represented, as well as a landscape architect, a communications strategist and a world-renowned executive chef! Every 10 minutes a bell sounded and the groups moved from speaker to speaker. This was careers speed dating at its best, with a real buzz in Westcombe House as girls moved from table to table. Huge thanks to our parents for giving up their valuable time to help motivate and inspire the girls.

The London Fire Brigade also led a most informative workshop were the girls learnt more about what working for the fire brigade entails: flexible hours, collaborative working skills and how quickly you can put on the fire officer protective clothing! Selin managed it in just under 60 seconds – well done Selin. Thank you to the London Fire Brigade for leading such a dynamic and engaging workshop.
