KS2 Poetry Competition

On Thursday 9th February, the library prefects had the opportunity to host the annual KS2 poetry competition for our primary school girls. Prior to this, every girl in KS2 had learnt a poem by heart and it was the tough task of the teachers to choose one girl to represent each form in the competition.

All of the finalists performed brilliantly and showed real confidence speaking in front of a large audience. It was evident that the girls had spent time trying to portray the mood of the poem as well as learning the words.

Thank you to our judges Mrs Chandler, Head of English at Seniors, and Mrs Saphra, a poet and parent at Seniors. They gave the girls very useful tips about reciting poetry, in addition to individual feedback.

Well done to all of our finalists, the judges found it very difficult to pick the winners!

A special congratulations to our winners below:

Winner from Year 3: Juno – 'Somewhere' by Walter de la Mare

Winner from Year 4: Anna-Faye – 'Sick' by Shel Silverstein

Winner from Year 5: Tiana – 'Don’t' by Michael Rosen

Overall Winner: Mira – 'Change can be Accepted' by Mira
