Un ensayo desastroso - a disastrous rehearsal

In a lively small-town theatre in Spain, auditions are underway for a new production of ‘Romeo y Julieta’. Verónica, the hopeful actress, is furious when she doesn’t land the lead role. Meanwhile, Cassy, the ever enthusiastic stage manager, is doing her best to keep the mounting chaos under control… all while secretly dreaming of playing the lead herself. To make matters even trickier, several cast members are missing. So Cassy calls upon some of our wonderfully brave Spanish students to step in.

The Senior School’s Spanish play was a wild ride of forgotten props, mixed up lines, dramatic outbursts, and flashes of unexpected brilliance. And did the students save the show? They absolutely did.

A huge well done to Olivia, Olive, Theodora, Myra and Gaia for a fantastic performance. And thank you of course to Onatti Productions Ltd for another brilliantly engaging in-school modern foreign languages production. Check out our Insta outtakes of the rehearsal.

Juliet from Year 11 gives her take on the immersive linguistic experience:

Last Friday, I had the privilege of watching the annual Spanish play. It was a fantastic opportunity to consolidate my understanding of the language while having fun at the same time!

In the play, a theatre is running auditions for a performance of Romeo and Juliet. Due to loads of mishaps, the director recruits members of the audience to take on roles from the play, including both Romeo and Juliet. The dramatic performances from everyone involved made the play especially memorable and comedic.

As well as being great fun, the experience gave performers the opportunity to improve their confidence in Spanish and in theatre skills, and allowed the audience to hear Spanish being spoken in an environment outside of the classroom.
