Partnering with neighbouring schools for sport

On 24 May, we hosted our annual Year 4 Sports Partnership Day with pupils from surrounding London primary schools.

The event took place at our sports field with 181 pupils from Blackheath High, All Saints Blackheath, Faraday, Invicta, and James Wolfe. The pupils had the opportunity to try out a range of sporting activities throughout the day including hockey, football and tennis.

The day was extremely successful and would not have run so smoothly without the Year 6 and 7 helpers who ran each station professionally, and crucially, made it fun!

The day was funded by HSBC who provided a generous grant as part of the GDST & HSBC Partnership Funding scheme for GDST schools to develop partnerships with local maintained schools. Thanks to this funding, we were able to buy new sports equipment, provide refreshments and a water bottle for each child.

Mrs C Chandler-Thompson, Head, said: “We were delighted to host this Sports Partnership Day with our neighbouring primary schools. Sport is an integral part of school life at Blackheath High and we encourage our students to develop a lifelong love of exercise. This day helped us to establish and cement an understanding that participation in sport should be life-long, not just for school.”

Miss A Newton, PE Teacher and organiser of the day, added: “Thank you to the parents and guardians who came along on the day to support the event and all the departments that made this day possible. We look forward to making next year’s event bigger and better!”
