Our cutting edge Senior School

We are committed to investing in the physical environment of our school, to create the best possible surroundings for our students to develop and reach their full potential. Together with the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), we recently invested £18 million to provide state-of-the-art facilities to ensure that our school environment matches the excellent standard of education we provide for our students.

The magnificent transformation included:

  • A brand new Library and resources centre
  • Advanced learning environments for Art, Design & Technology and Music
  • Cutting edge Apple Mac IT suite
  • Expansive gallery and exhibition spaces
  • Enlarged sports facilities including a brand new top-of-the-range fitness suite
  • Extended dining area
  • A well-being sedum terrace roof garden
  • An architecturally designed courtyard with "Mini-Louvre" at the heart of the school
  • A brand new Sixth Form Centre to inspire a mature, pre-university atmosphere


The new facilities enhanced the opportunities already on offer through the Theatre, Dance and Drama Studios, language lab, Science suite and specialist teaching rooms.

The thoughtfully conceived social spaces, sense of light and space, and the marriage of old and new buildings has created a very special environment. At the heart of the main entrance building hang the Datchelor Stained Glass panels; a generous gift from the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers and the GDST celebrating the pioneers of education for women. There can be no more fitting centrepiece for Blackheath High School; a place where girls are encouraged to be fearless pioneers and outward-looking philanthropists.

Providing inspirational teaching, a world class but intimate environment, and tailor-made opportunities, are principles at the heart of everything we do at Blackheath High School. Over 145 years later, the four pioneering GDST female founders would be proud the school continues to deliver on their original mission.
