The Beauty of Sisterhood Runs Throughout our School

I wanted to start this edition’s introduction with a focus on a recent Biology A-Level trip to Wakehurst Labs. Wakehurst, based in Sussex, is part of the Kew Gardens Trust and runs world-class research to 'explore the value of UK biodiversity to inform nature-based solutions to critical global challenges like climate change'.

Ms Bijnens took a group of 5 A-Level Biologists to Wakehurst to take part in complex experiments including DNA profiling, plant cloning and propagation and the students thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to put everything they have learned into action in a real-world environment.

This is just one of many trips that we are starting to re-introduce across the school and it is so heartening to see students put their learning into practice. We are delighted to be able to offer these opportunities again.

Last week we sent out offer letters to girls from local schools keen to join us in Year 7 this September. I was particularly pleased to see so many ‘Year 11 Buddy’ students taking part in a postcard writing workshop. These postcards featured messages they wanted to send to girls we hope will join us, to assure them of the friendly, warm and welcoming environment here at Seniors. A brilliant initiative.

Year 11 continued to look after and build relationships with Year 7 with an exciting film viewing, which saw Year 11 invite Year 7 for a screening of Disney’s Encanto in The Theatre. The students really enjoyed singing along as a group, spending time with their peers in other year groups and – of course – popcorn!

The beauty of this sisterhood is that it runs throughout the school, right from Nursery to Year 13. Our Year 7 Form Captains were shining beacons of friendship and support for Year 5 girls visiting for the ‘CSI’ themed Senior School experience day where our Year 5 students became crime scene investigators for the day with our Science department.

I do hope you enjoy this edition of Highlife and have a restful Half Term.
