Announcing our new Head of Junior School, Ms Laura Comerford - September 2024

Laura Comerford headshot IMG 3053We are delighted to announce the appointment of Laura Comerford as the new Head of Junior School for September 2024, following the retirement of Mrs Skevington.

Currently Head of Brighton Girls Prep School GDST, Ms Comerford brings with her a wealth of experience, a strong academic commitment and a passion for girls-only education. Her strong leadership, insight and innovative approaches are rooted in a teaching career which includes an Academic Assistant Head role at West London prep school Bute House; a senior teaching role in Malaysia; and of course her position as Head of Brighton Girls Prep. Here, she focused on creating a bright, happy, academically stimulating environment, placing literature at the heart of the curriculum and paving the way for a new generation of super-coders with the introduction of a Coding Specialist, among many achievements.

At Blackheath High School, she is committed to building on the school’s outstanding academic success, instilling in our pupils the skills they need for the world of tomorrow and preparing girls to excel in whatever they choose to do. Her previous roles within all-girls schools showcase her dedication to empowering young girls and fostering an environment where they can flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

Ms Comerford said: “I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to have been appointed as Head of Junior School at Blackheath High. I firmly believe in and am committed to the power of a progressive all-girls education. I am excited to have the opportunity to lead a school which champions individuality, encourages girls to be daring and enables them to chase their goals with conviction. I look forward to building upon the huge successes of Mrs Sarah Skevington, and working with the wider school community to continue to ensure that Blackheath High Junior School goes from strength to strength.”

Throughout the summer term, Ms Comerford will be working closely with Mrs Skevington to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of leadership.

Ms Comerford was appointed as part of a rigorous recruitment process – her passion, warmth and natural leadership skills shone through. As an experienced Head within the GDST network, and a South-Londoner herself, she is well placed to guide Blackheath High Junior School on the next exciting chapter of our journey.
