It is our aim for our curriculum to feed into the extra-curricular activities at the senior school. In the 4a blocked out time slot for extra curricular activities, we have over 25 different sporting clubs running for students to sign up for. They range from team practices for the schools fixtures, such as Cross Country, Netball, Athletics, Rounders, Tennis and Hockey, to Badminton, Volleyball, Trampolining, Fencing, Boxercise, Gymnastics, Dance, Football, Table Tennis and Personal Training.

These clubs and activities are open to all pupils and are run by staff members, PE teachers and specialist coaches (hockey, netball, tennis and dance). However, from the practice sessions, we select teams for inter-school matches, tournaments and Trust School rallies.  For girls who are selected to represent BHS, there are many opportunities to play in fixtures the majority of which are after school. Squads across the age range have participated this year in Hockey, Netball, Athletics, Rounders, Tennis and Football.
Click here to view our latest fixtures list, which is also downloadable at the foot of this page.
As part of our established extra-curricular programme, squads will also attend Swimming Galas, Dance Festivals, Cross Country and Athletic Meets in which we do very well.
To encourage an interest in outdoor activities we have established links with Danson Lake Watersports Centre and have put on one day taster sessions and extended courses in both Sailing and Canoeing. We also have an established link with local stables, Mount Mascal, who offer Horse Riding lessons at their pony club. There is also a very well attended Iron Woman Club for students wishing to extend their fitness and stamina.

Examples of some of the regular after school clubs:

BHS Hockey Academy

For girls that want to progress their hockey skills we have developed an Academy run by our coach Richard Young. Richard is the Kent Hockey Youth Development Officer and he runs weekly sessions concentrating on individual skills, set piece play and game development. Girls that attend this club are encouraged to go onto play Ladies Leagues when their skills have developed sufficiently and we put them forward to competitions such as the London School Games representing Greenwich borough.

BHS Iron Woman

BHS Iron Woman meets after school once a week for an hour’s stamina training in the delightful, neighbouring Greenwich Park. In addition to distance running, step training and sprint work, we also perform circuit training based upon British Military Fitness. During the darker winter months we split the session between Power Aerobics and Cardio Workout in the School Fitness Suite, led by our specialist qualified instructors. Whilst sessions have been described by our girls as ‘a world of pain’ we endeavour to laugh our way through it!

BHS Senior Basketball

Run by ex-England international player Joel Moore we offer the students in Year 10 -13 the opportunity to learn the skills involved in this fast paced game. We have core group of girls that enjoy the weekly session with Joel, to develop their individual skills and game play. While this club is about skill development, the students will tell you it’s all about the participation and fun. Open to students regardless of your ability.

BHS Trampolining Club

A new club this year, we have been fortunate enough to get Fabiana Flores, an internationally experienced trampolining coach who runs Blackheath Trampolining Club to run a club for our senior girls. All levels are catered for and we have a varied group of those that seem quite happy flicking themselves upside down and those that straight jumping is more of a challenge. We hope to be able to select individuals from BHS to work towards the London Schools Games Competition, representing Greenwich.
