The Senior School difference

Academic ambition goes hand in hand with a love of learning. We aim to make learning both challenging and joyful, inspiring students to experience the thrill of intellectual discovery while developing the adaptability and transferable skills essential for their futures. Our students learn to think critically and creatively, applying their knowledge across diverse contexts, from Civil Discourse to Artificial Intelligence. They go on to earn sought-after places at top universities and on competitive Degree Apprenticeships.

wellbeing

Blackheath High is a warm, inclusive and welcoming school with a strong culture of kindness, where every girl is valued and every voice matters.

Our pioneering pastoral programme empowers girls to take charge of their wellbeing, building resilience, empathy and self-awareness. Through one-to-one mentoring, leadership opportunities, enrichment and dedicated wellness initiatives, we nurture a healthy sense of self alongside an understanding of each student’s responsibility to others and the wider world.

At every stage, our goal is the same: to help each girl feel happy, confident and equipped to flourish – not just at school, but wherever life takes her.

moving to senior school

We know the move to Senior School can be daunting and we work hard to ensure girls enjoy the experience. Whether they are coming from our Junior School or joining from other schools, we want them to feel happy, confident, safe and ready to learn from day one.

Our 11+ transition programme includes a welcome evening for parents and girls, an action-packed summer school, buddy sessions at the start of term and a teambuilding day in September – all carefully designed to allow girls to find their space, make friendships and truly feel part of the community.

Girls joining at 13+ and other entry points will receive a warm Blackheath welcome, supported by buddies, a tailored programme of induction events and pastoral care.

“Blackheath High girls are fearless, bold and brilliant. From the moment they join us, they embark on a journey which is designed to prepare them for a bright future. With an ambitious curriculum, inspiring teaching and an extensive co-curricular programme, we support girls to discover their skills, explore their passions and truly become themselves. From the stage to the sports campus, the lab to the debating floor, every student finds her place to shine.”

designed for girls

There is strong evidence that a girls-only education leads to higher academic achievement, greater diversity of subject choice, stronger self-confidence and resilience, and enhanced career progression. This informs everything we do; from the curriculum to our co-curricular programme, from the hugely diverse enrichment on offer to the tailored, female-focused pastoral care. This is an environment designed for girls, free from stereotypes and the damaging shackles of societal expectation – a place where they can be their bold, ambitious, intelligent selves.

co-curricular life

Life outside the classroom is just as valuable as learning inside it.

With over 80 clubs and societies, there’s something for everyone – from Debating to Music, Minecraft to Scrapbooking, Fashion to French film, Book Club or even Shark Society. Girls in Year 9 can also join the Combined Cadet Force – Naval Division, which offers a wealth of leadership opportunities, trips and skills-building.

futures

The Futures programme supports every stage of each girl’s journey through Blackheath High School, equipping her with the confidence, curiosity and world-ready skills to thrive in higher education and beyond. Through advanced leadership roles, real-world problem-solving, internships and specialist workshops, we encourage students to explore their passions, challenge assumptions about the world of work, and imagine the future they want to create.
