From beginners to accomplished musicians, instrumentalists to vocalists, composers and conductors, every girl will find her own unique voice and musical identity at Blackheath High School.
Performance opportunities abound – from intimate school recitals to iconic venues such as the Old Royal Naval College, chamber orchestras to pop and rock bands, school musicals to original compositions. Music is woven through both the curriculum and our co-curricular programme, giving every student the chance to explore, create and shine.
Music is one of our most popular GCSE subjects, consistently achieving outstanding results and inspiring many students to continue musical studies into A-level and beyond.
SPECIALIST TEACHING
Each week, more than 150 one-to-one music lessons take place at Blackheath High Senior School, taught by a talented team of 16 visiting music teachers. With multiple dedicated practice rooms, recital spaces and a purpose-built Theatre, our facilities provide the perfect environment for young musicians to flourish. Music Technology is interwoven from Year 8 with specialist tuition in our state-of-the-art iMac suite.
A LIFELONG MUSICAL JOURNEY
Blackheath High School aims to inspire a lifelong love of music, with many students taking GCSE and A-level Music. A small number go on to study at leading university Music departments, conservatoires and national orchestras. Our students regularly achieve high levels in performance and theory, supported by expert tuition and a rich programme of co-curricular opportunities. Students can take both ABRSM and Trinity College exams on site, ensuring continuity and convenience as they progress through their musical journey.
A DEDICATED THEATRE
The Senior School Theatre is a unique space dedicated to drama, music and performance. With a raised stage, raked seating for 350 and professional lighting, sound and technical equipment, it offers students the chance to experience the thrill of live performance in a truly professional setting.
