ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

an ambitious learning culture

Our ambitious curriculum and forward-thinking approach to learning empowers girls to think independently, take risks in their learning and explore ideas with confidence. This culture of high aspiration is reflected in our consistently outstanding examination results, which open doors to top universities and exciting futures.

BRIGHT FUTURES START HERE

Our curriculum equips girls with the knowledge, skills, ambition and confidence to thrive in a rapidly changing world. It is purposefully broad, intellectually stimulating, and designed to spark curiosity across a wide range of subjects, from STEM and the humanities, to languages and the creative arts.

Small class sizes, teachers who are experts in their field, and outstanding pastoral care create a supportive, nurturing environment. We empower girls to take ownership of their learning, to think critically and to develop the vision to solve problems, now and in the future.

tailored pathway

A wide choice of GCSE options enables students to hone their interests and pursue their passions, with bespoke support in place to ensure each girl’s pathway is tailored to her individual strengths. We also offer additional opportunities to pursue more academically challenging subjects such as Astronomy at the Royal Observatory, Psychology, Classical Greek and Further Maths.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

Designed to complement the academic curriculum, the Girl emPowered Enrichment Programme covers a diverse range of topics, from leadership and journalism to wellness, sustainability and critical thinking. Across every year group, enrichment experiences are tailored to age and stage, cultivating practical life skills, self-awareness and civic mindedness.

Classroom discussion involving students and teachers.

Civil Discourse enrichment lessons in Year 7 help girls find their voices and use them with confidence and respect. Through thoughtful discussion and guided debate, pupils learn how to disagree well, listen actively, and express themselves with clarity and empathy. These sessions build essential life skills – resilience, confidence, respectful communication and emotional intelligence – that will support them far beyond the classroom.

The Enrichment Programme for older students focuses on developing leadership through community engagement. Year 11 students batch-cook for foodbanks; they write and perform musical storytelling adventures for very young children as part of our Classics for Kids series; they spend afternoons with older people from local care homes.

“Every element of life at Blackheath High is designed to inspire ambition, cultivate academic excellence, and ensure every girl is equipped – intellectually, emotionally and socially – for whatever comes next.”

Stretch & Challenge

We are ambitious for our students. Outstanding GCSE and A-level results are just part of what will shape their futures – we also aim to spark curiosity, build confidence and foster a genuine love of learning that will last a lifetime.

Our Stretch & Challenge extension activities are designed to spark intellectual curiosity, expand horizons and encourage independent thinking. Each department offers inspiring opportunities, from lectures and workshops to projects, trips and academic competitions, aimed at stimulating and challenging students, and encouraging them to engage deeply and work independently at an advanced level.

Students also take part in a wide range of competitions, collaborating and competing with other schools within the GDST, at local and national levels, to find their own unique strengths and passions. Whether they are debating ideas, tackling complex problems or finding their voices in new fields, we empower girls to take risks and discover what they’re capable of.

“In Year 10 I was given the opportunity to take Statistics as an additional GCSE. I loved the challenge and the extra skills it gave me, from analytical thinking to understanding probability and risk. It’s also made me feel much more confident about studying Maths at A-level.”
