DISCOVERY THROUGH PLAY

At Blackheath High Nursery, every day is filled with discovery, creativity and play. Girls are nurtured in a warm, stimulating environment where they are encouraged to follow their curiosity and grow in confidence. A purpose-built playground, our magical on-site Forest School and exciting visits from musicians and authors bring learning vividly to life.

BUILDING SKILLS

From Ballet and Strength & Stretch exercise classes to outdoor exploration, our exciting co-curricular programme lets girls try new things, build skills and shine in their own way. Being part of our all-through school, pupils also benefit from early access to specialist spaces and state-of-the-art facilities throughout the wider school, giving them countless opportunities to grow, explore and begin their educational journey without limits.

SMALL STEPS TO BIG DREAMS

We believe it is never too early to start thinking about the future. Our Futures programme begins in Nursery, gently introducing pupils to the skills and qualities that will help them grow into confident, curious learners. Through imaginative play, storytelling and hands-on activities, they begin to explore ideas like problem-solving, teamwork and independence. As they move through the school, these foundations are built upon in creative, age-appropriate ways, helping every girl to feel empowered, confident and excited about the possibilities ahead.

“It is so important to children’s development that they get the chance to take risks, do things on their own and experiment with giving things a go even if they don't get it right the first time. From filling up their own watering cans in Forest School, to balancing on logs, to learning to be brave on the climbing frame, we really focus on the tiny risks that build confidence, instil independence, and ultimately lay the foundations for a love of learning. It might look like play, but we’re setting our girls up to be the leaders of the future.”

TRIPS & VISITS

Our inspiring trips programme gives even our youngest learners the chance to broaden their horizons, build new skills and spark a love of discovering the world around them.

We make the most of the rich history and culture on our doorstep with visits to places such as Eltham Palace and Greenwich Park. As girls grow in confidence and curiosity, they venture further afield – from exploring the Houses of Parliament to experiencing live theatre at Shakespeare’s Globe.

A community like no other

We create a culture of kindness and connection across every part of the school so every girl benefits from part of a strong, welcoming community from the very beginning. Girls build friendships and find role models across year groups, creating a sense of belonging that spans the Junior and Senior Schools. Older pupils in Years 5 and 6 volunteer as Playtime Buddies, spending time in Nursery classrooms and play areas to support, play with and inspire their younger peers.

A sporting start

Physical development is carefully nurtured through specialist PE teaching in school, and regular time at our five-acre Sports Campus, just a 10-minute walk from the school. With grass and all-weather pitches, netball and tennis courts, and plenty of space to move, run and play, girls begin developing coordination, balance and a love of being active in a fun, supportive environment that sets the foundation for lifelong wellbeing.

NOURISHING MINDS

We instil healthy and adventurous eating habits from the earliest age, with a variety of nutritious meals catered by our Head Chef and team. Lunch and snack times foster a sense of community and sharing, as girls join their older peers in our Dining Hall.
