Year 3 Curate for the Day

Year 3 explored the Old Royal Naval College, enjoying a guided tour and a hands-on workshop.

This term, Year 3 visited the historical Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich to discover more about our local area and to develop their historical enquiry skills along the way.

We were lucky enough to take part in a ‘Curator for the Day’ workshop, during which we investigated artefacts and information related to distinct periods in the Old Royal Naval College’s history. Each group selected an interesting artefact and presented their findings to the class. Highlights included an original floor tile from the time when the college was a Tudor palace, a sailor’s wooden leg from the former naval hospital, and a morse code box from WWII.

Pupils also enjoyed a guided tour of the world-famous Painted Hall and were able to play a game of skittles on the original bowling alley in the College Undercroft.

We will all look forward to putting our historical enquiry skills to good use in future Humanities lessons and trips this year.
