What a wonderful day our Year 5 girls enjoyed on their French enrichment visit to Sydenham & Dulwich Girls GDST on Mardi 2 Mai. Packed with French activities, friendly challenges and plenty of laughter, the day proved that learning a language is at its best when it’s hands-on and shared with others.
The girls began by getting to know their partners entirely en français, asking questions such as “Comment t’appelles-tu?” and “Quelle est la date de ton anniversaire?” A series of interactive games and quizzes followed, testing their vocabulary, pronunciation and knowledge of French culture. One of the highlights was la momie (the mummy!), where teams raced to wrap up a partner before identifying and spelling as many body parts in French as they could. The combination of teamwork and friendly competition kept the energy high throughout the day.
Experiences like these bring language learning to life. By speaking, playing and problem-solving together in a real-world setting, our pupils discover that French is far more than a classroom subject – it’s a way to communicate, connect and build confidence.
A huge merci to the staff and pupils of Sydenham High School for Girls for such a warm welcome, and to our fantastic Year 5 girls, who represented Blackheath High so brilliantly and came away buzzing with new friendships and fresh enthusiasm for the French language!
