Story adventures and farmyard fun in Nursery

A term full of imagination, laughter and wonderful storytelling.

Nursery’s storytelling basket is full of imagination, laughter and wonderful storytelling to spark curiosity and inspire rich conversations.

We began with The Elves and the Shoemaker, discovered through a tiny pair of leather shoes tucked inside the basket. After a lively conversation about the characters and plot, we then created our own class story – an imaginative tale about a girl in a forest, a poisonous snake, and a magical transformation! – and made mini storybooks, full of creative ideas.

Our farmyard theme brought us to Noisy Farm, introducing Sam the Sheepdog and all the sounds around the farm. Listening closely for clues in the story, pupils explored where animals live – from barns to pigsties and duck ponds. We also adored Cows Go Boo!, especially shouting a loud, dramatic “BOO!” just like the mischievous cows. It led beautifully into playful rhyming games, as we noticed how boo rhymes with moo and hunted for more silly rhyming pairs.

Alongside our story work, Nursery pupils enjoyed learning about Eid and of course celebrating many of their favourite stories in World Book Week – getting into costume along with the rest of Junior School, as well as meeting visiting author Annemarie Anang, whose wonderful books include I Am Nefertiti and Dance Just Like So.

It has been a joyful term of stories, sounds and discovery – full of curiosity, creativity and plenty of farmyard giggles. We can’t wait to see what tales await us next!
