Across the school, students enjoyed a fantastic lineup of sporting highlights, from the Year 1 PE Discovery Morning – giving our youngest pupils a glimpse into the sports curriculum ahead – to an inspiring Junior School Women in Sports Assembly. We also embraced some healthy competition during our KS3 Winter Sports Day and our budding football players rounded off the season with an unforgettable trip to watch the London City Lionesses take on Arsenal.
Year 1 PE Discovery Morning
Our Year 6 girls led a fantastic PE Discovery Morning for Year 1, guiding them through a series of activities including hockey, netball, team-building and orienteering. It was a wonderful opportunity for our older pupils to take on leadership roles, while giving Year 1 an exciting introduction to sport at our Blackheath High Sports Campus.
Year 1 took part with great enthusiasm, relishing the chance to follow in the footsteps of their older sisters and inspired by all that lies ahead. It was a wonderful opportunity to instil a love of sport and to showcase the wonderful, supportive community that defines our school.

Junior School Women In Sports Assembly
To mark International Women’s Day, our Sports Prefects led a special assembly for pupils in KS1 and KS2, celebrating the achievements, resilience and leadership of women in sport. Their presentation highlighted inspiring female athletes from around the world and explored how sport can empower girls to be confident, courageous and ambitious.
The prefects shared stories of determination and teamwork, reminding pupils that progress happens when we give support, encouragement, and fairness so that everyone can gain opportunities to shine. Their message was clear: every girl at Blackheath High has the potential to lead, to participate, and to make a difference – both on and off the pitch.
The assembly encouraged all pupils to think about what they can do to champion equality in sport, from cheering for girls’ teams to challenging stereotypes and including everyone in play.

KS3 Winter Sports Day
The KS3 Winter Sports Day at the end of Spring term was a tremendous success, showcasing students’ sporting talent across football, netball, and a cross-curricular orienteering course. The orienteering element added an engaging academic challenge, requiring students to draw on their Maths and English skills to solve problems as they navigated the course at our Sports Campus.
Throughout the day, there was a strong sense of camaraderie and excellent sportsmanship, with students supporting and encouraging one another in every activity. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, enhanced by thoughtful touches that helped create an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all. It was particularly pleasing to see younger students confidently seeking guidance from older peers, who were more than willing to offer support, reflecting a genuine spirit of teamwork and community that ran throughout the event.
Overall House winners from the day were Meridian, with the following House wins across the key activities.

Netball
- Our Year 5 netball team enjoyed a fantastic set of matches against Sydenham High, showing great skill, teamwork and determination throughout. The games were closely contested, with two wins (6–4 and 3–1) and two hard-fought losses (7–5 and 4–0). Congratulations to Players of the Match as chosen by the opposition: Grayson, Ewa, Lily and Merryn.
- Our Year 6 and Year 8 netballers had an unforgettable few days on the annual Condover Hall trip. Throughout the packed tournament schedule, the girls played with resilience and enthusiasm, trying new positions and strengthening their teamwork. Evenings were just as exciting, with activities including abseiling, climbing, tunnelling and the grid of stones – a fantastic all-round experience both on and off the court.
- The Senior School Netball squad also played in the U12 Kent County Tournament, enjoying some great matches and hard fought competition to finish in a well deserved overall position.
Hockey
- In early March, two of our Year 5 hockey teams travelled to Sydenham High School for an exciting set of matches. Both teams played with great skill, teamwork and determination, with closely contested games throughout. One team narrowly lost 4–3 in the final minute, while the other finished with a high-scoring 8–6 result. A brilliant effort all round, particularly Myla and Anika, who were named Players of the Match by Sydenham High.
Cross Country
- Our talented Senior School cross-country runners took part in the London School Cross-Country Championships this term, with strong overall placings, coming third in the Greenwich schools.
Football
- A group of our Senior School students enjoyed an incredible day watching London City Lionesses take on Arsenal in an exciting match. Arsenal secured a 2–0 win, with goals from Olivia Smith and substitute Stina Blackstenius, keeping up the pressure in the race for Champions League qualification. With a fantastic close-up view of the action, the girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience and loved seeing top-level football up close.
