With the Spring term coming to a close, the Music Department have been reflecting on a very busy term! Junior School took part in the GSA Junior Choir of the Year and held both their Teatime and Spring Concerts, while Senior School musicians participated in GDST Sing at the Royal Academy of Music, our Requiem at St Alfege Church and our regular community event Classics For Kids. And, of course, our musicians and Music Department, led by Ms Bond, were instrumental in the delivery of the fabulous production of The Addams Family music, in conjunction with the Drama department led by Head of Drama, Ms Coles.
With a full schedule of Summer term events ahead, rehearsals are already underway for our energetic Senior School Pop Fest – a collaboration of our rock bands and the concert band. Get ready for an evening of funk, pop and jazz!
GSA Junior Choir of the Year 2026
We were absolutely delighted to be named runners-up in the final of the GSA Junior Choir of the Year 2026. Huge congratulations to all the schools who took part — and to our Blackheath girls, who truly brought the light and roared!
The GSA commented, “What a celebration of girls’ talent, confidence – from the first note to the final applause, the standard was extraordinary. Every choir brought commitment, musicality and real presence to the stage, filling the room with sound and spirit.
“At The Girls’ Schools Association, we often talk about helping girls find their voice and this spectacular event is a perfect example of what that means. Bringing together the singing voices of girls their courage and confidence shines through.”

Junior School Spring Concert
The Junior School Spring Concert was once again a joyful celebration of the girls’ progress in our many co-curricular clubs, showcasing not only their musical development but also their growing confidence as performers.
This year’s concert also shone a light on the rich – and often underrepresented – contributions of female composers, celebrating voices not always given equal space on the concert stage and inspiring our young musicians to see that creativity and talent belong to everyone.
The evening was a brilliant showcase of skills and reinforced the transformative power of music to uplift, inspire and unite.
Year 5 Teatime Concert
Our Year 5 instrumentalists delighted their families and teachers with an array of beautiful solos, duets and group performances on Thursday 5 March, complete in full costume for World Book Day!
GDST Sing
Senior School Spring Concert
Our beautiful Senior School Spring Concert was held once again at St Alfege Church in Greenwich, bringing Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem to a captivated Blackheath High community. In a world often marked by noise, division, and uncertainty, music offers us a rare and sacred space for reflection. Fauré’s focus on eternal rest and consolation enabled our audience to contemplate the peace that humanity continually seeks.
We were delighted to deliver outstanding performances by our classical ensembles such as Little Prelude and Fugue in E Minor by our Clara Schumann string ensemble, Arabesque played by Carlotta on the piano and Mozart’s String Quartet No.14 in G Major, as well collective performances from our vocal trio, Sinfonia, Clara Schumann and amassed Choirs.
Classics for Kids
A highlight of both our community calendar and our Year 11 enrichment programme is Classics for Kids, a musical adventure created by our Music students and performed to an audience of preschool children from the local community.
This term, Ms Bond and her band of merry forest creatures created an Easter egg-stravaganza, inviting our little guests to sing, dance and search for the hidden eggs around the room. Students threw themselves into the performance, showcasing a wide range of talents, demonstrating their instruments and inspiring the next generation of music-lovers. And the little ones loved it! One parent told us she had never seen her little girl so completely engrossed.
Classics for Kids will return in the Autumn term, keep an eye on our Community Events page for dates to share with parents of preschoolers.
