Nursery Maths learning this term has been full of rhythm, repetition and joyful discovery. We explored patterns through favourite number songs such as Five Little Ducks and Alice the Camel, noticing how numbers change and repeat, with plenty of actions and enthusiasm along the way.
Our pattern work continued through art, inspired by Bridget Riley, Yayoi Kusama and Sarah Morris. The girls loved creating their own bold designs, spotting stripes, spots and repeating colour sequences. Back in the classroom, they built simple AB patterns using farm animals, with some confidently extending their ideas into more complex sequences.
We also introduced subitising – recognising small quantities without counting – helping pupils to see how numbers can be grouped in different ways.
It has been a wonderful term of playful Maths learning, with patterns appearing in songs, stories, art and hands-on activities.
