Greenman Public Speaking competition

Huge congratulations to all competitors on a range of persuasive speeches.

The Greenman Public Speaking Competition is a Blackheath High institution, run by the English Department, which challenges students in Years 6–9 to plan, write and deliver a persuasive speech.

Standards were as high as ever this year and our teachers were impressed by the enthusiasm and skill on display. Class winners progressed to a competitive semi-final, with eight students selected to perform in the final on Friday 13 February.

Speech topics ranged from banning fast fashion to whether books will ever become a thing of the past, alongside reflections on fame and the idea that rules are made to be broken. The final was judged by Ori Chandler, Head of Inclusion and Diversity at Aviva, who provided thoughtful feedback to each finalist.

Huge congratulations to all participants – the standard was exceptionally high. Special well done to our overall Key Stage winners, Olivia (Year 7) and Darcy (Year 9).
