GDST Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre Trip

A group of our Year 6 girls enjoy an acting workshop in Shakespeare's artistic home.

On Wednesday 29 April, five pupils from Year 6 were invited to the Globe Theatre for a day of Shakespearian fun with the GDST. Once we arrived, we were greeted by the very friendly staff and guided onto the Elizabethan clothes workshop just in time to see how hard it was to sit down in the old-fashioned clothes! After this, we could hardly contain our excitement as watched a theatrical sword fighting demonstration. There were three epic battles, all with trained professionals, knowledgeable on how to sword fight without hurting each other with blunted swords.

Following this, we participated in an acting workshop that focused on characterisation. We learnt how to move around the stage when acting, and how you can use your body and posture to show the character you are portraying.

Once that had finished, it was then time to watch a one person performance of The Winter’s Tale! It was a lot of fun, as volunteers from the audience were needed for parts of the play and our very own Olivia J played the part of the king!

In summary, it was a fun and educational day where we learned about Shakespeare in the wonderful setting of the Globe Theatre!
