Year 2 see The Lion King
Year 2 had a ‘roarsome’ time travelling to the West End to see iconic production of The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. Pupils have been exploring the topic of Africa this term, learning about the vibrant countries and the wonderful wildlife. They have even written their own Tinga Tinga Tale based on one of the African animals of their choice. The visit to the theatre was a joyful and well-deserved finale to a fantastic topic.
Year 3 Egyptologists visit the Petrie and British Museums
To complement Year 3’s Ancient Egypt Topic this month, pupils were excited to visit not one but two exciting historical sites in one day! We started at the British Museum, exploring their treasure trove of Ancient Egyptian artefacts, from mummies to canopic jars and the incredible Rosetta Stone.
We then visited the Egyptian gallery at the Petrie Museum, with a private tour of the museum to see items including Ancient Egyptian toys and hippo statues; followed by a scavenger hunt for interesting artefacts led by the knowledgeable museum team.
Hear from two of our pupils on their highlights of the day:
- “I loved the Petrie Museum – they gave us worksheets to make us think about how things in the past were different from now and I loved seeing so many small objects in detail”, Cara, Year 3.
- “My favourite part of the visit was looking at all the shabtis, because they are like miniature mummies. The stone and blue ones are for rich people, and the wooden ones were for poor people. I also liked seeing the scarab beetles as they are symbols of protection from the Gods in Ancient Egypt”, Poppy, Year 3.
