The Junior School’s new Friendology programme is designed to help pupils understand and navigate relationships. This term in Nursery, we have focused on learning about ourselves, our friendships, and how we tackle challenges. We have talked about setting goals – the things we want to get better at – and how practising, trying new ideas, and asking for help from friends, family or teachers can make tricky things feel easier over time. Nursery loved sharing their own proud moments and the goals they are still working towards.
The Friend‑o‑Meter is a simple way to think about what “healthy” and “unhealthy” friendships feel like. The girls had thoughtful discussions about what makes a “green zone friend” – someone who is kind, fair, and fun to be with – and how to recognise “red zone” behaviours that don’t feel so good. These early conversations are helping the children build strong, caring friendships with one another.
We also began our new Jigsaw topic, Healthy Me. Nursery threw themselves into a fast‑paced version of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, naming even more body parts as they went. Afterwards, we noticed our hearts beating faster and talked about why moving our bodies is so important for staying healthy and strong. We also learnt about the importance of sleep, as we discussed healthy bedtime routines and how sleep helps our bodies and minds rest so we have energy for the following day.
It has been a lovely half term of growing confidence, empathy and healthy habits and we’re so proud of how thoughtfully the children have embraced every part of it.
