Flying High in Antarctica: Year 7 Flag Design Competition
Antartica’s unique environment and exceptional scientific importance provides the focus for the Year 7 Antarctica Flag Geography Competition, with students tasked to design a special flag using the themes of climate, wildlife, research, and global cooperation.
Huge congratulations to winners Sahana and Emily, and runners-up Maria, Violet and Damla. The two winning designs are set for an incredible journey – all the way to Antarctica, where they’ll be photographed on location at research stations and in the field. Each participating school will receive these images, along with a certificate marking where their flag was flown — a lasting reminder of how creativity in the classroom can reach across the world.
The Rivers Trust ‘Big River Watch’
Our Year 7 geographers became citizen scientists this half term, taking part in the Big River Watch. Using the BRW app, they surveyed the River Thames, recording key observations to help The Rivers Trust build a clearer picture of river health across the UK and support vital restoration efforts.
Gold Standard DofE Adventures
Huge congratulations to our Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award entrants who ended the summer season in true Blackheath High style!
These hardy adventurers really pushed boundaries and embraced the great outdoors. On Day 2 alone, the kayaking team powered through an impressive 21 miles on the river – an extraordinary feat of endurance and teamwork.
Meanwhile, Carlotta and Sophie completed their Gold Qualifying Expedition in the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park, conquering multiple peaks including the mighty Pen y Fan, the highest point in South Wales.
Well done to all our adventurers – you’ve shown remarkable grit, determination and true DofE spirit. The mountains were high, the rivers long, but you rose to the challenge. You did it!
