JUNIOR SCHOOL SPORT

EVERY SPORT IS A GIRLS' SPORT

From the very start, girls at Blackheath High School know that every sport is open to them. Our Junior School sports programme is designed specifically for girls, inspiring confidence and enthusiasm, and encouraging them to explore a wide range of activities, from dance and swimming to cricket and football. As they grow, so does their ambition, supported by expert coaching and opportunities to excel – free from stereotypes and full of possibility.

SPORT FOR LIFE

Sport is an integral part of life at Blackheath High School. We take a holistic approach – sport is about far more than just being physically active; it is about teaching lifelong skills such as leadership, resilience, teamwork, communication and emotional intelligence.

Our inclusive, ambitious PE curriculum includes netball, hockey, football, swimming, gymnastics, dance and cross country. It is supported by a rich co-curricular programme, open to all abilities, with options ranging from ball skills to ballet, and a hugely popular football club.

From Year 3 upwards, pupils are invited to join competitive teams and take part in fixtures, inter-house matches and tournaments against other London schools, as well as GDST rallies.

"From the moment girls join, we encourage them to enjoy being active, explore different sports and discover what movement means to them. Our aim is to nurture confidence, celebrate individual progress, and inspire a lifelong love of physical activity."
Hannah Morrell, Director of Sport

SPECIALIST TEACHERS

Sport is taught by specialist teachers and coaches from day one, ensuring girls learn to explore their skills and passion in a specialist environment, whatever their ability level. Our staff are experts not just in developing physical skills, but also in fostering positivity, confidence and collaboration, supporting mental wellbeing and nurturing personal development.

SPORTS CAMPUS

From trampolining, badminton and netball, to dance and fitness, our on-site facilities provide a huge range of opportunity to stay active and learn new sports skills. Beyond the school grounds, pupils also enjoy access to our dedicated five-acre Sports Campus, just a 10-minute walk away.

This purpose-built facility features an athletics track, cricket nets, netball and tennis courts, a multi-purpose AstroTurf pitch and a spacious pavilion. It is a hub for PE lessons, clubs and fixtures, as well as the setting for our much-loved Sports Day.
