The school is led by a Senior Leadership Team, and a Junior Leadership Team leads the Junior School. We also have a specialist Sixth Form Team, who are experts in the specific needs of Sixth Form students.

Natalie Argile
With a background in Chemistry, Mrs Argile is a passionate Science educator with a particular interest in nurturing the creative side of the subject. She began her teaching career in a high-achieving comprehensive school in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, before moving south to teach in large grammar schools. She joined Blackheath High School in 2015 as a Deputy Head and Chemistry teacher, before being appointed Head in 2023.
An innovative leader and a passionate advocate of equality and education for girls, Mrs Argile is committed to ensuring every student reaches her own individual potential, whether that is through academic excellence, sporting achievement, creative endeavour or co-curricular interests.
Mrs Argile holds overall responsibility for the strategic leadership of Blackheath High School. She is committed to shaping and sharing a clear, values-driven vision and championing excellence in every area of school life.
Jayne Leamon
Mrs Leamon began her teaching career in 1997, following university, as a Physical Education teacher at an all-girls school. A specialist in PE, she also developed a strong interest in teaching PSHE and soon discovered a deep passion for pastoral care. This led her to take on leadership roles as Head of Year and Assistant Head at a grammar school in Kent before joining Blackheath High School as Deputy Head (Wellbeing) in 2024.
Mrs Leamon holds strategic responsibility for pupil wellbeing, inclusion and engagement across the school. She leads the Pastoral Team in fostering and sustaining the school’s warm, inclusive environment; one where every individual is valued, supported and celebrated, and where inclusion thrives alongside aspiration and excellence.
Dr Patrick Drumm
With over 25 years’ experience in the independent education sector, Dr Drumm brings to Blackheath High a commitment to academic excellence, a bold, forward-looking vision, and a deep belief in the power of girls’ education.
As Deputy Head (Academic), Dr Drumm is responsible for the leadership, management and development of the academic life of the school. His role is to ensure the highest academic standards so that every student at Blackheath High can flourish and pursue her ambitions with confidence.
Dr Drumm holds a DPhil in Music Composition from the University of Sussex and an MA in Music and Education from the University of York. Before teaching, he worked at the Cabinet Office and for the Royal Collection. Outside of school, he is a keen cyclist and runner and enjoys hikes with his young family.
Katy Hickman
Ms Hickman is a passionate Geography teacher with a particular interest in political and economic Geography. She began her teaching career at a co-educational school in Buckinghamshire before moving to Thailand to teach at a leading international school in Bangkok. She joined Blackheath High School in 2017.
Ms Hickman is a strong advocate for civic engagement and believes in offering students meaningful opportunities beyond the academic curriculum. She values activities that enrich students’ lives, build a sense of purpose, and contribute to the wider community.
As Acting Assistant Head, Ms Hickman is responsible for overseeing progress and enrichment across the school. She works closely with the Deputy Head (Academic) to monitor and support student progress, ensuring each individual is able to reach their full potential. She also leads the development of a dynamic enrichment programme, equipping students with a broad range of skills to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Frederique Cheyns
Ms Cheyns is an enthusiastic and dedicated language teacher with a deep passion for girls’ education. Her teaching journey has spanned a range of educational settings, including nine years at a large grammar school for girls; an experience that solidified her commitment to empowering young women through education.
Driven by her belief in the importance of holistic development, Ms Cheyns is dedicated to equipping students not only with academic knowledge, but also with the skills and self-confidence they need to thrive in all areas of life.
As Head of Sixth Form, Ms Cheyns has overall responsibility for the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the Sixth Form. Her primary focus is on delivering exceptional academic guidance and personalised pastoral care, ensuring that every student is fully supported and well-prepared for life beyond school.
Rob Ryan
Mr Ryan brings over 30 years of experience in Education Finance and Management, having worked across schools, Trusts, and Local Authority Education Departments. His extensive background includes overseeing multiple major school build projects, and delivering high-impact operational solutions. He holds a Diploma in School Business Management and is AAT qualified. With two daughters of his own, Mr Ryan is passionate about the mission and values of Blackheath High School, and is a strong advocate for girls’ education.
In his role, he provides strategic and operational leadership across the school’s business functions. He oversees administration, property management, health and safety, and financial operations, ensuring the smooth and effective running of the school’s infrastructure to support its educational vision.
Anne Fuell
Ms Fuell brings over 15 years of experience in advertising and marketing at Ogilvy, where she worked with a diverse portfolio of global brands including BT, BP, Ford, The Coca-Cola Company, Nestlé, and Unilever. Before joining Blackheath High School, she also worked for the Mayor of London, playing a key role in building the city’s international reputation. This breadth of experience has equipped her with the skills and insight to tell the Blackheath High story with creativity and impact.
Ms Fuell leads the school’s Marketing and Admissions team. She works in close partnership with the Head to bring the school’s vision to life, develop and deliver effective admissions strategies across all entry points, and foster strong relationships with alumnae and the wider community.

Laura Comerford
With 24 years’ experience across independent, state, and international education settings, Ms Comerford brings a rich and diverse perspective to her role. She began her teaching career in co-educational primary schools before moving to a mixed international school. On returning to the UK, she took on a leadership position at an all-girls independent prep school – an experience that profoundly shaped her belief in the transformative power of girls’ education. She was inspired by how empowering it is to educate girls in environments where their voices are prioritised, their confidence is nurtured, and they are encouraged to believe in themselves and their futures.
As Head of the Junior School, Ms Comerford leads in close partnership with the Head of Blackheath High School. Her focus is on guiding, motivating, and inspiring both pupils and staff to achieve their very best, academically and personally, through a dynamic and challenging curriculum, a rich co-curricular programme, and exceptional pastoral care.
Monica Patel
Ms Patel brings a unique blend of creative industry experience and educational expertise to her role. Before beginning her teaching career, she spent many years as a performer, theatre producer, and TV production manager. She then transitioned into education, gaining 15 years of experience in the state primary sector, where she developed a particular passion for literacy and drama. To deepen her understanding of leadership in education, she completed a master’s degree in Education.
Ms Patel works closely with the Head of Junior School to ensure that the curriculum is innovative, future-facing, and designed to develop critical thinking and a love of lifelong learning in every pupil. She oversees teaching and learning across the Junior School, manages assessment and reporting, and supports staff development to maintain the highest standards of educational practice.
Amy Lucas
With over 15 years of teaching experience in both independent and state schools, Ms Lucas has taught across both Key Stages 1 and 2, and brings a strong background in pastoral leadership. Since joining Blackheath High School in 2019, she has been instrumental in the development of the school’s bespoke Mighty Girls Challenge; a programme designed to foster resilience, creativity and problem-solving in pupils.
As Pastoral Deputy Head, Ms Lucas is responsible for ensuring the physical and emotional wellbeing of every child in the Junior School. She also oversees the development and delivery of a PSHE curriculum that is relevant, inclusive and responsive to the needs of the school community.
Hannah Chandler
Miss Chandler brings 15 years of teaching experience across both state and independent schools, and has taught pupils from Reception through to Year 6. She has spent more than a decade working in Key Stage 1, giving her a strong understanding of each child’s learning journey – where they begin, how they develop and how best to prepare them for the next stage.
Her background also includes teaching in Special Educational Needs (SEN) settings, enabling her to support pupils with a wide range of additional needs. Through this expertise, Miss Chandler is able to guide parents effectively, signposting them to the appropriate support and resources to ensure their children receive the help they need.
Miss Chandler is passionate about empowering girls through education. She creates an environment that encourages exploration, creativity and curiosity, while intentionally nurturing early leadership skills. Her approach aims to equip girls with the confidence, independence, and resilience they need to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Lizie Riordan
Miss Riordan has a degree in Primary Education & Art and 24 years of teaching experience across the state, international and independent sectors. She joined the GDST family in 2013 and moved to Blackheath High to take on the role of Head of Early Years four years later.
Ms Riordan is passionate about Early Years education as she believes it really is the most important and magical period in a child’s development. She is deeply committed to creating an environment where every girl feels confident, capable, and excited to learn, and is particularly inspired by the opportunities within the EYFS curriculum to challenge gender stereotypes and give girls the freedom to explore widely, follow their interests and truly be themselves.
In her spare time she enjoys exploring her creative side through sewing and other crafts, and volunteers with the Society of Bookbinders. She loves live music and chatting with her book group about their latest read.

Cath Day
Ms Day is an educator, senior leader, and theatre practitioner with a distinguished career spanning education and the performing arts. She holds a BMus from Royal Holloway College, University of London; a PGCE from Durham University; a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Acting Studies from the Birmingham School of Speech and Drama; and a Postgraduate Certificate in Text and Performance from RADA, where she graduated with Distinction.
As Head of Futures, Ms Day leads on strategy for student progression beyond school, guiding them on university, apprenticeships and careers with personalised support, work experience and building future-ready skills. She is also Co-Head of Academic Scholarships, devising and running a programme of challenging opportunities for our Academic Scholars. Ms Day is an experienced senior leader, having also held the roles of Head of Music, Head of Performing Arts, Co-Head of Sixth Form, and Senior Tutor. Her professional work reflects a sustained commitment to educational innovation, creative leadership and student development. She is also the researcher and author of an Ofqual-accredited LAMDA Level 2 qualification in Speaking and Listening Skills.
Alongside her work in education, Ms Day is an accomplished writer and theatre-maker. She has written several satirical comedy shows, including the award-winning UKIP! The Musical – which received a The Stage Award during its sold-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe – and the follow up, Brexit at Tiffany’s. She regularly coaches adult drama students and is currently co-writing a new children’s musical.
Manpreet Sodhi
Mr Sodhi graduated with a degree in Business and Finance in 2000 before embarking on a career in the finance sector. In 2007 he completed his PGCE and transitioned into teaching, bringing both professional expertise and academic insight to the classroom. Alongside his career, Mr Sodhi has served as a Commissioned Officer in the British Army Reserves, further enriching his leadership skills.
Previously, he was Deputy Head of Sixth Form at a Kent grammar school, before joining Blackheath High School in 2018 as Head of Business & Economics, and Head of Year 12. In 2024, he took on the role of Head of Student Leadership, which sees him works closely with pupils to develop confidence, initiative and enterprise.
Mr Sodhi is a strong advocate for promoting financial literacy and independence in girls, and encouraging them to explore leadership opportunities in the business and the finance sectors. His breadth of experience in both education and industry ensures that students benefit from a dynamic and practical approach to learning.
Paris Banks
Choosing what comes next after Sixth Form can be both exciting and daunting. As Head of Higher Education and UCAS, Miss Banks ensures that every student feels supported, informed and confident as they consider their future pathways.
Whether students are exploring university options, considering apprenticeships or planning a gap year, Miss Banks provides expert guidance to help them make well-informed decisions. Through individual meetings, she works closely with each student on every stage of the UCAS process – from early ideas to refining final drafts – ensuring that personal statements reflect their strengths, achievements and aspirations.
At the heart of Miss Banks’s work is a genuine commitment to helping young people thrive. Alongside her role in higher education guidance, she is also Head of Psychology, holding a BSc and MSc in Psychology and Mental Health; and Co-Head of Academic Scholarships, where she designs opportunities and events to stretch and challenge our Academic Scholars.
With nearly a decade of teaching experience, she takes great pride in seeing students take their next steps with confidence, equipped with the skills, self-belief and support they need to succeed.
Danielle Walker
After completing her degree in German at the University of Leeds, Ms Walker discovered her interest in teaching while working as an English Language Assistant near Düsseldorf. Ms Walker achieved her PGCE in MFL teaching in 2016 and is an experienced and passionate teacher, who believes strongly in creating a dynamic and supportive classroom environment where students are encouraged to grow in confidence and curiosity.
Alongside her teaching role at Blackheath High, she serves as the Pastoral Lead for the Sixth Form, guiding students through the exciting but often challenging transition into adulthood. She is committed to fostering a nurturing environment in which every student feels known, valued, and empowered to thrive both academically and personally. Whether supporting students with their wellbeing, mentoring them through key decisions, or championing their individual strengths, she is deeply invested in helping each young woman reach her full potential.

Amanda Waygood
Amanda Waygood brings a strong background in the education sector and a proud connection to Blackheath High School as both a former staff member and GDST alumna. Her career as an English teacher has included leadership roles including Director of English and Head of English in both single-sex and co-educational schools.
Amanda attended Howell’s School, Llandaff GDST. She went on to study English at the University of Reading, followed by a PGCE in English at King’s College London and a further PGCE in Education Studies (Action Research) at the University of Leicester.
Her interests include architecture, property development, interior and garden design, alongside a love of poetry and literature – particularly works exploring gender bias, gothic writing, and Victorian society. Amanda remains deeply engaged in educational thought, with a particular focus on curriculum development and evolving learning styles in response to post-Covid challenges.
Michelle Di Leo
Michelle has over 30 years’ experience in strategic communications and has advised a wide range of high-profile businesses and organisations on reputation management and navigating the complex policy and political environments. As a UK adviser to Secretary Hillary Clinton, she established the Hillary Rodham Clinton Global Challenges Scholarship programme as a partnership between the Secretary, Swansea University, and Sky.
She currently works with Corndel, a leading apprenticeship training provider in the AI, data and leadership space.
Michelle is also a practising artist, having recently taken a sabbatical to complete a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. She has a first degree in Philosophy with English Literature, and a Masters Degree in Government and Politics. She has lived in Blackheath for over 20 years, and has a son at Bath University.
Throughout her career, Michelle has been supported and inspired by incredible women, and strongly believes in Madeleine Albright’s maxim that “there is a special place in hell for women who do not support other women.” Michelle is delighted therefore to be able to play a role supporting the education and opportunities for girls as a Governor of Blackheath High School.
Professor Natascha Radclyffe-Thomas
Professor Natascha Radclyffe-Thomas, EdD FRSA is Professor in Marketing and Sustainable Business at the British School of Fashion, GCU London. Natascha attended Blackheath High School and is delighted to still be in touch with many of her former BHS classmates.
After studying economics at university, Natascha founded a small luxury fashion business and later moved into fashion education teaching in Asia and North America. She returned to London in 2012 and was awarded a prestigious Advance HE National Teaching Fellowship in 2016, in recognition of her innovative intercultural approach to teaching and learning.
Natascha is Vice Chair of the UN Principles of Responsible Management Education UK and Ireland chapter, with a particular interest in promoting gender equality and responsible consumption and production. She became a Fellow of the RSA in recognition of her work promoting sustainability in fashion education, won the 2020 Case Centre Award for Ethics and Social Responsibility, and was Runner Up in the Financial Times Responsible Business Education Awards in 2022. Natascha is a knitter, stitcher, and make-do-and-mender!
Dr Iain Soulsby
Dr Soulsby joined the Board of Governors at Blackheath High School in 2021. He has two daughters at the school, and he has played an active role in the parent association (BHSA) over the last decade. He is also married to a Blackheath High School alumna.
Iain moved to Blackheath in 2000 when he completed his undergraduate dental training at Guy’s Hospital. He has worked at a number of dental practices around south east London, now dividing his time between surgeries in Blackheath and Croydon. The Soulsby family live close to the Senior School near Blackheath Standard.
Outside of work Iain is a keen runner, with a number of half marathons under his belt. He enjoys cooking and wine appreciation, travel, and spending time with friends and family.
Melissa Gleave
After an early childhood spent in a variety of countries across the globe, Melissa settled in Blackheath at the age of 9 and has remained in the area ever since. An alumna of Blackheath High School, Melissa joined the governing board to give back to the school and community that played such a formative role in her life.
A Physics graduate of the University of Manchester and former investment banker, Melissa is now a director at an expert witness firm. Having thrived in the male-dominated world of financial services – from the trading floor to the boardroom, across multinationals and start-ups – she is passionate about encouraging young women to feel confident in pursuing the full range of educational and career opportunities available to them.
Melissa brings the same energy and commitment to life beyond work. A former fitness instructor and business owner, she has also been a rugby player, marathon runner, triathlete, scuba diver, cross-fitter and keen skier. She believes strongly in inspiring young women to make the most of themselves in both mind and body.
Ashleigh Robson
Ashleigh Robson brings over 16 years of experience in English education to her role as Safeguarding Governor. She has taught English across Key Stages 3 and 4 for more than a decade and a half and has previously served as Head of Sixth Form, supporting young people through one of the most important stages of their school journey.
Ashleigh also has extensive Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) experience across multiple educational settings, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students. In her current role, she leads the English curriculum and works closely with students who are out of school due to medical needs, ensuring they continue to access high-quality learning and feel connected to their school community.
Ashleigh is a passionate advocate for a curriculum that nurtures students as whole individuals and empowers them to explore their interests; whether that’s sculpture, poetry, football, or even quantum physics. She believes education should inspire curiosity, creativity and confidence. A prominent contributor to school life, Ashleigh proudly carries the titles of Rag Week Karaoke Champion and Space Hopper Champion, reminding students and staff alike that joy, humour and community spirit are as important in schools as academic achievement.
Beyond the classroom, Ashleigh is a long-standing A-level English Lead Examiner, bringing valuable insight into assessment, standards and academic excellence. She holds a master’s in Education: Leading Innovation and Change from St Mary’s University, Twickenham, where her research focused on the impact of learning outside the classroom.
Anja Funston
Anja is an architect, and an advocate of women working in architecture and construction. She is committed to showing Blackheath High students the many opportunities open to them in currently male-dominated careers, and believes our built environment will be a better place when diverse voices design the spaces we all inhabit.
Anja’s path into architecture was unconventional, first achieving degrees in Fine Art and Psychology, before finally Architecture. Having worked in large design practices in London – most recently David Chipperfield Architects – Anja is now a Director at Pawlik + Wiedmer, focusing on performance and theatre spaces. She is a Blackheath High alumna, a mother to two young children, and a keen swimmer.
Elle Shoben
Eleanor (Elle) is a Global Chief People Officer with extensive experience leading people strategy in PE-backed, high-growth and international organisations. Over her career she has advised Boards and Remuneration Committees on succession, executive development and equitable reward, and has led major cultural and organisational transformations across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Eleanor has held senior leadership roles at Rouse, George P. Johnson, Social Finance UK and Barclays, where she shaped global talent, culture and inclusion strategies for workforces of up to 24,000 people. She is particularly recognised for her work in advancing diversity and belonging, championing female leadership, and building environments where individuals can thrive.
A committed advocate for girls’ education, Eleanor is passionate about ensuring that every student has the confidence, opportunity and support to fulfil their potential. She brings her experience in leadership, safeguarding culture, and strategic oversight to her role as a GDST governor, serving on committees covering performance, finance, priorities and staff development.
Eleanor is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and holds postgraduate qualifications in higher education and governance. She has also lived and worked internationally, including in Australia and New Zealand, and began her career teaching English; an experience that continues to shape her belief in the transformative power of education for girls and young women.
